The health and safety of our patients and staff is paramount. In response to the increased risks associated with COVID-19 we will be implementing additional safeguards to minimize potential transmission. During this period of increased vigilance against the Covid-19 outbreak, all dental offices in Ontario have been strongly advised to close until approximately April 3, 2020. We are following the best advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and Canadian health authorities and may ONLY provide emergency services. In dentistry, a “true emergency situation” includes oral-facial trauma, significant infection, prolonged bleeding or pain which cannot be managed by over-the-counter medications.

Emergency cases will be managed via telephone by taking a verbal history of the patient’s condition and providing appropriate pharmacotherapy, generally an antibiotic, if indicated.

In those few cases where telephone management is insufficient, clinical assessment may be necessary in the dental practice.

The patient will be screened for acute respiratory illness, including COVID-19: Presence of a fever, a cough or difficulty breathing AND any of the following:

  • Returned from travel to any country outside of Canada in the last 14 days; OR
  • Close contact with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19; OR
  • Close contact with a person with acute respiratory illness who has returned from travel to an impacted area.

You can take the following steps to protect yourself from COVID-19 in the same way you protect yourself against the common cold and flu:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often with soap and warm water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap is not available;
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth;
  • Avoid close contact with people who are ill;
  • Stay home from work or social gatherings if you are ill;
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then immediately throw the tissue in the garbage and wash your hands;
  • If you don’t have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve or arm;
  • Stay away from public gatherings of 50 people or more;
  • Pay close attention to travel advisories;
  • Clean and disinfect frequently-touched objects and surfaces in your home.

Please feel welcome to call the office and either Dr.Douris or Dr.Handa will return your call.
